You can continue exploring local cultural heritage of the Vipava Valley by visiting The Roman fortress of Castra in Ajdovščina. There, you can admire the remarkably well-preserved Roman walls and the 14 towers of the former fortress, which is truly unique in the country. If you want to wander among the ancient narrow streets, you should visit one of the most charming medieval villages in the area, Vipavski križ. This gem is often referred to as the “jewel of the Vipava Valley”. Another picturesque town in the heart of the valley is Vipava, full of stories and surprises. Known for its numerous springs and bridges, it is often called the “Slovenian Venice”. Vipava also offers the most of gourmet food restaurants in Vipava Valley. Goče is another important monument of Slovenian cultural heritage, attracting visitors with its exceptional and unique architecture. Don’t miss the beautiful renaissance villa Zemono and the baroque mansion of Grad Lože. Both are rich in history and stunning architecture. Not far from the castle in Lože, you will also find a giant bench, the first in Slovenia, which offers a magnificent view of the entire Vipava Valley.

A meal isn’t complete without a good glass of local wine. A must-do when visiting the Vipava Valley is touring one of its many wineries. Vipava winemakers traditionally open their doors, inviting guests to taste premium wines and home-made cold cuts. Participate in a tasting session in one of the characteristic vaulted cellars, where you can meet the locals and try autochthonous Vipava wine varieties Zelen and Pinela. Experience hiking and biking adventures in the Vipava Valley
Head to Otliško okno, where ancient natural forces created a large opening in the rock – a stunning natural window offering magnificent views. Another great idea is the Pot po robu, one of the most picturesque hiking trails on the edge of Gora plateau, providing views across the Karst region to the magnificent Adriatic sea. Last but not least, Nanos is one of the most popular hiking destinations, which offers trails of various difficulties. If you prefer trails that are a little less challenging, you can go along the Naravoslovna učna pot Ob Hublju, leading to the source of river Hubelj and offering numerous spots for summer refreshment along the way. For an educational, less demanding hike, consider the Učna pot ob reki Vipavi. Along this path the information boards introduce you to the wildlife and flora of the Vipava river from its source to the border of Italy. Another fantastic way to fully experience and enjoy the beauty of the Vipava Valley is by bike. The region offers numerous mountain and road cycling routes. You can ride up to the Nanos plateau, cycle along the riverside, explore the countryside, traverse the Karst, and more. The easiest way to uncover all the hidden gems of this vast valley is by renting an electric bike, allowing you to effortlessly reach even the furthest spots. For bicycle rentals, both electric and mountain bikes, the best way is to contact two nearby agencies Rock Velo or Wajdusna rent a bike.
