The valley’s vineyards are bustling with activity as the grape harvest begins, offering visitors the chance to participate in traditional grape-picking and wine-making experiences. The cooler weather makes it ideal for exploring the valley’s scenic trails, where you can enjoy leisurely hikes amidst the fall foliage or cycle through rolling hills covered in ripe fruit. Local farms and markets overflow with seasonal produce, including juicy figs, persimmons, and chestnuts, perfect for tasting or taking home. Autumn is also festival season in the valley, with events celebrating the harvest, local cuisine, and, of course, the region’s renowned wines. It’s a time to savor the rich flavors, breathtaking scenery, and cultural richness of the Vipava Valley.
This is also the time of the year when Osmica and Martinovo celebrations take place. The Osmica is a traditional sale of wine and other produce from various farms. It’s usually organized up to twice a year.. Martinovo is a special day in year, when winemakers give extra attention and thanks to must which just turned into wine. At that time, many events and gatherings in the valley are dedicated to wine, extending from Martinovo day up to Christmas. On Martinovo it is customary for Vipava winemakers to invite all those who helped harvest the grapes to a feast, and many winemakers open the doors of their wine cellars to all lovers of Vipava wines. Autumn is also the time of organized hike trails, where people of all ages gather together and takes hikes from in ranges from 5 to 15 kilometers on the beautiful Vipava Valley routes. One of the most famous hikes is the hike named “In the Footsteps of Matija Vertovec”. The hike traverses through sloping vineyards and the Valley’s picturesque villages with center point of Planina, just nearby our homestead.
